Mazie is a 4 ½ year old Shih Tzu that truly knows her own mind. She currently lives with Doug and Mary as the sole pet in the household. Mazie was re-homed from a household where she lived with a Maltese, a Shih Tzu, and two adults. In this environment she was treated like a petulant child, and they catered to her every whim. A spoiled dog who dominated the household. Then there was “the incident” that caused Mazie to be moved to another location.

Question (Q): Mazie, I understand that you used to live with two other dogs but there was an event that caused a 10 month old dog
, Gracie, to suffer from a dislocated shoulder. What happened?
Answer (A): “Frankly, I have no recollection of my causing anything to happen to Gracie. I do remember that we were playing, and Gracie suddenly fell down in pain. She seemed very frail and probably had a genetic defect of her shoulder.

Q: I see, and do you recall another time you bounced the other dog across the room with a body slam?
A: “No-never happened. I was set up for sure. I had to get out of there before I ended up in a shih tzu rescue. I asked to move in with Mary and Doug. I need a dog free environment.”
Q: Can you share your likes and dislikes?
A: “ Well, I do not like adult humans, except Doug and Mary.---and I really like them. Sometimes I must nip the hands of new adults who think they can pet me without permission. Stranger danger. I love children and they love me. I recently met my first baby, and they are fabulous. I sat as close to it as I could and even licked it’s foot. When they took it upstairs to nap, I sat at the bottom of the stairs until it returned. I can’t climb stairs well and would prefer to be carried up and down. I want one of these mini humans. I chase cars unfortunately, I am usually on a long leash and my running causes the leash holder to stumble. I also occasionally lunge at people who I feel are walking too close to me. I chase deer and rabbits if given a moment alone in the yard. I am a canine action figure. I guess certain individuals object to my karate. “

Q: Any other comments?
A: “Just that I work full time in the home and have to shadow my human Mary wherever she goes in the house. If I am home alone, I watch out the window until the family returns. I have their backs!
